CYO
What is the CYO? The CYO, or Catholic Youth Organization is our youth group at Our Lady of LaSalette Church. The CYO, which was founded in 1973, is free to join. All children ages 11 through 17 are welcome to join.
The CYO is structured so that each month there is a service event, a spiritual event, and a fun event for the youth. For example, at the service event the youth can participate in helping to clean the Church or hall, work in the prayer garden, volunteer at Care Help or other charitable organization, or help the elderly and infirm with projects they are unable to do. Spiritual events range from having a talk by a religious speaker, Eucharistic Adoration, attending a retreat, praying the Rosary together, or even Bible trivia games. Last but certainly not least, the fun events, which vary depending on funding available, can include Lock-ins, family fun days, or simply watching a movie with the group.
Every year the youth present a live Way of the Cross, a Christmas play and a Palm Sunday Celebration. They are also involved in other Parish events.
On the first Sunday of each Month, the members of the CYO have a teen Mass. CYO members will serve as lectors, ushers, greeters, gift bearers, and altar servers for the 10:30am Mass. After that Mass is the Monthly Meeting for CYO members and Sponsors. During this meeting the various events for the month are planned.
Through all of these events, the CYO helps our youth gain a deeper relationship with Christ and his Church, while allowing them to show the love of God through their service to his people. It gives them a way to enjoy fellowship with other youth and deepen their faith while feeling supported and engaged.
Sadly, many of our Parishioners and their children are not aware of the CYO or the many benefits they can receive by joining. If you know any youth ages 11 to 17 or their parents, please let them know about the CYO. Any parents who would like their children to join the CYO can contact the Youth Director, Sam Melder at (337) 802-7843.
